Moonbird is designed in the spirit of the Tasmanian beach shack β€” a contemporary space that has everything you need for your perfect east coast holiday adventures.

Create your own treasured memories . Take a deep breath, slow down, disconnect and explore. Curios of times past rest throughout the shack, special pieces that all have a story to tell add to the layers of joy experienced here over the years.

Watch the sun and moonrise from the north facing deck or cozy living room. If the ocean on the horizon tempts you to the beach, walk directly across the road and you will find yourself on the sand where you can enjoy natures’ spectacle with a cup of tea or glass of wine.

Gaze to the south west and you can enjoy hinterland mountain views that call out for exploring. Or do nothing more than watch the day pass by from the comfort of your deck chair basking in the sunshine or curled up on the comfy sofa. Relish in the moment, as you have now discovered the true meaning of shack life.

Time to rest

Sleep soundly with the ocean hum singing softly. The shack has two deluxe queen size bedrooms with 100% linen bedding for a blissful night's sleep. The birdwatchers room has hinterland views to the south west and the native garden surrounding the shack. The Shell collectors room has filtered ocean views to the north, interesting curios and eclectic artwork to inspire the sweetest dreams.

Time to relax

If you are an early riser; wake at dawn, you will love the aroma of your favourite brew steeping, whilst you watch the sunrise above the alluring Tasman Sea. A short walk over to the beach, feel the cool of the morning  sand between your toes, inhale and marvel at the sun rising, shimmering on the crystal blue sea.

Time to ride

Over the past few years the East Coast region of Tasmania has been transformed by MTB enthusiasts who have built some of the best trails in the world. The variety of trails on offer around St Helens 15 minutes north and in Derby an hour north is guaranteed to make you smile. Plus endless gravel roads and forest tracks weave through the hills behind Moonbird… you can ride all day without ever getting in a car.

Time to surf

Moonbird Shack has an abundance of surf spots that cater for beginners to advanced surfers. Enjoy the outdoor shower after your surf, swim or day at the beach or perfect to wash off the day after a day out riding the MTB trails.

Time to breathe

Yoga mats are provided for you to enjoy your own practice at your own pace, either on the deck, in the living room or a beautiful grounding practice on the beach at low tide is the most beautiful experience. Watch the passing flight of Yellow Tail Black Cockatoos as they slowly pass by the window as the sun streams in welcoming the day.

Time to restore

Moonbird’s garden reflects the natural coastal flora with extensive plantings of local indigenous species. Enjoy the abundant bird life, grazing and mournful call from the Yellow Tail Black Cockatoos. Swing in a hammock in the shade or stretch out in a banana lounge under the dappled shade. Snooze. Read. Repeat.

History of Moonbird

Designed by Jaws Architects in Hobart, Moonbird was pre-built in factory before being transported to site and lifted into position. It is warm and cosy all year round, with a large north facing balcony offering ocean glimpses. Situated in the township of Beaumaris opposite the stunning white sand beach, Moonbird is the perfect base to explore everything the region has to offer.
